How we are different from a regular food bank and why.
Food banks are a wonderful resource. We work with local food banks to try and find ways to serve those who cannot attend a food bank distribution line. Whether it is because they are homebound or because they work during distribution hours, we get the food to those in need.
We are for the backyard garden. We are for the windowsill garden or even just a plant on the front porch. For most of human civilization people supplemented their food sources with things they grew themselves. You can't get more local than your own home and we all know local is best!
Finding ways to bridge the gap between local producers and local consumers is one way we hope to bring food security to every rural home. From working with local producers to take donations of 'misfit' foods that aren't pretty enough for grocery shelves to getting local grown and raised foods into our schools and restaurants. We are on the front lines to bring everyone closer to their local farmer.
There are so many wonderful people working to help. We want to be a part of coordinating efforts and communicating with the local community and potential supporters to keep our families fed.
Help us make a lasting difference. Contact us to find out how you can be a part of our team!
Besides straight donations we work to find unique ways to fundraise in our community. We seek to highlight local artisans and producers and bring more traffic to their door. The more fertilizer we spread the greener all our fields will grow!
